 Alistair Lennox - Accordion

ceilidh bands glasgow, ceilidh bands edinburgh, ceilidh bands scotland, ceilidh bands ayrshire, ceilidh bands fife, alistair lennoxAlistair is the founder and main point of contact for 'Thistle Dubh'.  He began learning the accordion when he was 7 years old and is still playing away at the ripe young age of.......?

Since forming 'Thistle Dubh' in 2001, Alistair has taken the band to play at the Hebridean Celtic Festival as well as numerous abroad gigs to places such as Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Brussels, Dubai, India, Prague, Stockholm and Tunisia, to play for the respective Caledonian and St Andrew's societies.

Alistairs main musical interest is playing music from the Scottish/Irish Traditional and Gaelic idiom, which hopfully will be recognisable on attending a 'Thistle Dubh' ceilidh.

Andrew Cowie - Drummer ceilidh bands glasgow, ceilidh bands edinburgh, ceilidh bands scotland, ceilidh bands ayrshire, ceilidh bands fife

Andrew has been playing the drums with Alistair Lennox & The Thistle Dubh Ceilidh Band & Disco since the band’s formation in 2001.  Since he has joined the band he has graduated with a BA (Hons) in Applied Music and has started teaching drum kit and percussion extensively in Renfrewshire and Glasgow schools and also on a private basis.

Performing with Thistle Dubh has really enhanced Andrew’s performing experience, with gigs in places such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Brussels, Stockholm, the Western Isles and all over the UK.  Andrew also performs regularly in orchestra pits for musicals in Scotland, such as ‘42nd Street’, ‘Oliver’, ‘The Hot Mikado’ and ‘Rent’, to name a few.

A keen DJ, Andrew takes his turn at DJing if our disco package is booked - he will always endeavour to play requests!

Andrew really enjoys performing with Thistle Dubh and he hopes that the listeners and dancers have a great night at all
the different events they play at, such as weddings, birthday parties, St. Andrew’s Dances, Christmas Parties, Hogmany Parties and Burns’ Suppers.  Whatever type of function you are attending, Andrew will do his best to make sure your feet are tapping all night long! 

Emma Hillman - Fiddleceilidh bands glasgow, ceilidh bands edinburgh, ceilidh bands scotland, ceilidh bands ayrshire, ceilidh bands fife 

Emma started playing violin when she was 9. Since then she has been a member of various orchestras and ensembles throughout school and university. However, her main musical passion is playing Scottish and Irish traditional music with the ever popular Thistle Dubh Ceilidh Band!

After leaving school, Emma studied music at the University of Strathclyde, where she obtained a BA Honours in Applied Music. Following this Emma completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Secondary Music Education.

Emma is now a classroom music teacher and hopes to maintain a balance of teaching and performing traditional Scottish and Irish traditional music with 'Thistle Dubh'.
